Amy Berger, I'm Low Carb and proud of it! Video for thought

Hello All!

I'm busy

1. Correlating my weight data using Heads Up Health, and investigating my current weight loss close to goal

2. Cat hearding so that I can get one kitty to vet dental surgery.

3. Listening to 80's music

4. Enjoying my staycation

5. All of the above

Here's some homework.

Heres a hashtag #imlowcarbandproudofit

Yep! If I eat too much fat, I get... ugh, fat again. Sigh. Thanks Amy. I'll be adding some graphs and my 2cents and own life experience on my thoughts on Amy' video

Cat photo for my cat fans,
We're going WHERE?

While You See a Chance, Stevie Windwood

Music for cat hearding!

Back soon with some graphs...

  1. Karen, you have the best resources! I think you have posted about Amy before though I'm not sure. I recently went to her blog after reading a link from Franziska Spritzler. And yes, I agree about eating lower fat along with low carb. I see quite a few people in certain FB groups recommending people eat more fat with low carb diets. No, that does not always work, especially for women! I so appreciate your sharing this video. I'm going to listen.

Herding cats for the vet is not fun! Though I have found that mine does better when I herd her for the vet than when I give her flea medicine! She's an indoor cat, but I still don't want to chance it. She HATES the flea medicine and it takes me 20 plus minutes sometimes to get her for that!

I'm looking forward to your chart with graphs and your experience with lowering your fat. That's something I'm most interested in learning about.

    1. Hi Ali, yeah! I found I could go higher fat the first year or two, when I was battling my higher glucose with fruit and dried fruit, I could see that it helped. Something tells me that what works is very much a moving target. Once I got my glucose/insluin and whatever else hormones humming along, then I could slide back into a little less fat, a little more protein, and just a few carbs more and have great results.

Sadly, the advice to pile on more and more dietary fat when someone has gained body fat over 2-3 months.... well, that's only going to go in one direction, in my experience. I do think the idea that our body will let us know. I can see shifts over 4-5 days with small changes. Then I'll step back into 2-3 months. Once or twice a year, I'll have a look at the entire year to see trends and shifts.

The data is free- with a very small time commitment- body weight scale, My Fitness Pal free tracker. Add on some extras like a Fitbit and some BP measuring and a few bio-markers like glucose, hs-CRP, etc and things become clear.

I was getting some joint pain with fruit, but have been eating 1/2 an ounce of blueberries most mornings with no pain, so that is good. I tweeked my protein grams closer to my fat grams and that very, very slight change in macros has me slowly losing overall.

My body is talking, but will I listen. I don't like to do everything I want to do, but I like to be in a certain weight range, so I monitor. Take care and I'm still working on the charts.

  2. PS: Are you still eating your 85 percent dark chocolate? If so, how many squares a day? (Or grams if that's how you measure it?)

    1. HI Ali. The 85% chocolate. I have half a serving to one serving a day. And I find my lowest weights when I consume chocolate. Who knew!?! LOL. It works for me, but I'll take it since I like it. It's kind of funny...

  3. HI Isabel!!! Thanks for stopping by. Love Amy's work. Hope to meet her someday. Cat got her procedure done. The other cat will try to beat her up a bit, (doesn't like the vet smell) so today is re-introduction day.
