Eating more fish? Yes, no, maybe so?

I need to try to eat a few more fish, or not. I've not had my favorite salmon burgers ( not really Paleo) due to the challenge. Salmon doesn't always appeal to me, but, it does make my hair really smooth.

I can manage tilapia and hake, if I use avocado oil or some dairy free pesto and lemon or lime.

I take an omega 3 supplement every day. Jury is still out on eating more fish. I'd like to see some food allergy testing before I eat too much more fish.
First blog on the iPad. So far, so good.

  1. I love fish. I eat it at least every other day. Trader Joe's has a lot of really good options if you decide to eat more - frozen, canned, dried, etc. :-) Hubs is allergic so I tend to buy it in ways I can easily make single serving portions, and TJ's is great for that.

    1. Thanks, Cheri. It's all so fishy tasting to me. I spend money on it and toss it. Ughhhhh! Typically , if a food doesn't appeal to me, it means I should not be eating it due to sensitivity issues. Beans , bananas, butternut squash. B words!!! ;).

Shell fish does taste good to me, cooked. Shrimp , scallops , squid. S words. Heh, heh , heh.

    2. That's funny. :-) Maybe this ties back to some Sesame Street thing... ;-D (I LOVE shellfish too! I used to hate canned fish btw, but I'm less picky now. Canned crab works for me, but I use things mixed in to it.) Oh, and I've heard that the more "fishy" fish tastes, the less fresh it is. But it could be it tastes that way to you, as you say, just because you are very keenly aware of what you are reacting to. I really only notice this if I'm paying a lot in a restaurant. ;-) Then I expect it to not taste fishy and be FRESH - I'll ask if it is before I order it. When I'm using it out of a can, I just smother it in mixers, lol. :-D

    3. Cheri, LOL- Sesame street. Oh boy.... Yes, mixers it is. Someday I will get brave and make paleo mayo. Not yet, though

  2. Hi Karen! I eat a little 100 calorie can of albacore (white)tuna about 2 to 3 times per week. Chicken of the Sea is the very best brand for albacore tuna--all flakey and perfect. Starkist looks really scary to eat, and I gave a lot to my dog.

    1. I'll try the Chicken of the sea, and mix with the pesto. Will let you know. I'm not sure it will have the same smoothing effect on my hair. I've been experimenting with Great Lakes gelatin and at gives me smooth hair, too. Will Post a recipe soon.

    2. I like TJ's brand canned tuna, salmon and crab better than Chicken of the Sea or any other store brands. You might want to compare and see what you think.

    3. Will experiment. I tried with TJ's big can of bone in salmon. I did not mind the bones, but the skin and taste was gnarly. :0

  3. iPad - if you are having trouble with a function, turn the screen. Some things work better with the iPad horizontal and others vertical.

  4. Hi Karen

Great set of pictures again, really sets off your post.

Eddie and I love fish and mix it in with our weekly meals quite regularly. We are actually having salmon for tonight's dinner. For those who may be allergic to fish, you have to amend your diet accordingly.

    All the best Jan

    1. Thanks, Jan. I had the best time watching this great blue heron fish out his lunch. He comes every day, but a rare treat to watch him eat.

  5. I love tuna; have it twice a week on top of an organic salad mix. Yummmmm.

I'm still trying to find a trustworthy (yet reasonably priced) source for halibut and tilapia.

Oh, and allergists have told me that people usually crave the foods they have hidden allergies to, so your reaction is a little unusual.

    1. Gwen, I think you are on to something here.... craving food like pizza and frosting (wheat and sugar)- yeah- in the old days- that was me. Therapist said "I think you are allergic to wheat/sugar". Too bad I was in denial so long (10 years). Picky fish taste buds...

  6. I love salmon and tuna steaks. I don't love halibut and tilapia. My favorite? Fried catfish (not on the plan, so I don't eat it). I also really love shellfish of any kind.

    1. This is the first year of my life I've eaten salmon. Tuna- so-so. Even fresh off the boat stuff. I hear you on the catfish!!! Trying hake again this weekend. Shell fish is yummy. I eat it less due to expense.

  7. I had hake this morning for breakfast- with shredded cabbage salad (avocado oil and balsamic) and some sauteed onions and a few slivers of avocado. It was yummy.Nice break from eggs
