Independant from weight maintenance although there is overlap., as I understand her philosophy.

And super yes, plenty of my maintainer friends online are NOT food addicts, and most of my post weight loss surgery friends ARE food addicts, so there's that. Curiously, 100% of my carnivore friends are in remission from food addiction.

I'm carnivore adjacent, so about 70% of my food comes from meat, emphasis on red meat, meat of the bone, nose to tail eating. I still seem to benefit from cruciferous veggies, kruat and ancient ways of eating. Very good hungry full signals from meat off the bone, but I feel a little better with the low starch veg, gasp onions and carrots, but I ate those right out of the garden in Indiana.

I value your feedback more to come on weight maintenance for my maintenance friends- food addict recovery or not. Thank you and give my best to everyone who thinks my page is cool. LOL. Dr. Ifland has the ARC where she offers $12 per week/ 4 X per day member support. Here's the link. I like your perspective as a weight-los...Hi Karen,

I like your perspective as a weight-loss maintainer, even though it is completely different from mine.

I do not identify as a food addict. I lost weight several years ago and maintained it for about 7 years back then. 7 years of misery filled with hunger, coldness, depression and obsession with food. I understand now that this "starvation syndrome" is the expected, normal outcome after sizable weight loss (for most people, most of the time).

Thankfully, your experience is different. I think.

As far as I know, with addiction, when someone abstains, their cravings (for drugs, cigarettes, alcohol, etc.) go diminishing over time. With weight loss however, the more someone loses weight, the more their body fights back, and the more they get hungry and preoccupied with food.

On that basis, I am inclined to believe that food addiction and obesity and two completely different issues. Sure, they may overlap in some individuals, but they should be considered two different diseases with two different treatments.

Does that mesh with you experience at all?
What about other maintainers you know?

Thanks for your time,

Valerie
valeriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05234169408257579073noreply@blogger.com
