16 month weight maintenance June 2013

I had a longer post and poof- into the black hole it went. I'll get a few examples this weeks of my macro nutrients, but its close to 20% carbs, 50% fat, 30% protein.  Fat comes from mostly plant sources. Avocado, olive oil, avocado oil, salmon. Also from animal sources- bison, salmon,  chicken thighs, and occasionally some beef.

My brain likes it. I feel full, I have energy, I stay lean. Hair stays smooth, skin stays acne free most of the time. I have some muscles.

High Weight : 187.4
Current weight: 116.4 (this morning, graphs are from yesterday)
Goal weight range:  113-117
Height: 5' 1"
Age: 47
Months in maintenance: 16 months
Months til menopause: 1 more month and it's official! Hope that's not a jinx.

Hair: still big
Shoes: Rocking the danskos

The low carb challenge really helped with snacking on nuts. I'm bringing back in 85% chocolate with no troubles. Will stick with that for a while.

I'm living proof that you don't have to re-gain significant amounts after loss. Low inflammatory diet (paleo/primal) , structured plan, monitoring, addressing slippery slope thinking, new habits that support overall health and wellness. It's a lot of work to cook, but it's more work to deal with chronic disease.  Why go through that?

What works:
1. Primal/Paleo Diet
2. Walking 10,000 steps or more a day
3. Support
4. Avoiding binge foods, don't keep them in the house.
5. Repeating every day for 16 months, no matter what

What did not work:
1. WW low fat diet
2. Walking 5,000 steps per day
3. Avoiding support
4. Not getting serious about the food I was eating
5. Going off plan for "special occasions"

  3. Loved all the personal stats (height, age, etc), very helpful to put that with your weight numbers, would be good to have those in there each time you do one of these posts - thanks.

Your percentages are very interesting. Yes, I can see why WW would not have worked for you (on so many levels), me either.

Sorry you have a black hole experience. I hate when that happens. (Did the system log you out and you had to resign (in)? That is the one that use to get me every once in a while until I learned that if I just sign in, it pops me right back to where I was, don't push the back arrow or all will be lost).

  4. Hi Karen - I hate that when I'm writing my blog and then stroke a key wrong and everything disappears. I like your 'What works' and "What did not work' lists. Very true for me:)

  6. "Hair - still big" LOL!!!

I'm a convert! Doing the Whole30 during May opened up a whole new way of eating for me...have re-introduced oats and a small serve of cottage cheese, but that's about it. No way is other dairy coming back into my life, and as for grains, I can certainly live without them.

    Happy 16 months anniversary :)

  8. Congratulations on 16 months! That's wonderful! I am 5'1", too, so I'm probably shooting for somewhere near your goal weight. Right now, I'm stuck at 155, but started at 209 so I definitely feel good about my progress. I really agree with you about the fact that WW low fat did not work. The high fat is really helping me stay full and have fewer cravings. I love to hear that it has consistently helped you with maintenance!

  9. I like that "address slippery slope thinking." I think that when I've addressed it, I've almost always been able to deal with it in a prompt manner. When I don't face it is when I get nervous about it--so facing it is so crucial.
